Credentials: Cal Poly, SLO - Bachelor of Science in Mathematics; Single Subject Credential in Mathematics

Background: After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in mathematics in three years, I was accepted into their credentialing program.  After finishing up my schooling there, I accepted a job in Oakley, CA teaching at Freedom High School.  After two years there I got married and relocated to the Santa Cruz area where I taught for a year at a charter school.  We relocated to San Francisco and I taught for two years at San Leandro High School.  We finally decided to buy a house and plant some roots in Pleasant Hill and I was happy to accept a position teaching at DVHS and I have been here ever since!I have taught everything from 6th grade math to Statistics.  I love math and I love teaching and I think that the combination of the two makes for a great learning environment for my students.

Teaching/Educational Philosophy:  I believe as a teacher I wear many hats.  Students need direct instruction in math, but they also need time to work together and to work with a manipulative to develop a deeper level of understanding.  A successful learning environment provides room for all types of learners while still meeting the needs of the group as a whole.  My job is to be their coach: to support their strengths, help them to overcome their weakness and hope to teach them to love the process of learning.  I want my students to know that I care about them and to genuinely enjoy being in my class.

Personal Notes: Teachers do have lives outside of the classroom... hard to believe I know.  I live in Pleasant Hill with my husband, our daughter, and our dog.  We like to keep up on Bay Area sports and spend time outdoors with friends.
