Quote of the Month

I'm somewhat horrified because I don't think the young people today even know what history is. Some of them don't' even study History at school anymore or Geography and they don't know where one place is from another.

Course Description

World Geography is a one semester course that serves as an introduction to the social sciences and includes studies of physical geography, cultural geography, (both past and present,) and social science skills development.  The social studies skills that will be emphasized include research, reading and writing, speaking, and vocabulary development. Writing and research skills will be built upon each year to required coursework.  The mission of the DVHS Social Science Department is to help students develop and maintain an appreciation of the impact that world events have in the global community. It is our hope that students will notice the patterns and cycles of societies and understand why the past is still relevant today and be able to articulate it through their writing and mastery of the California State Social Science Standards.
