Background: I completed my Bachelors at USC in a special program (5 students admitted per year) earning an interdisciplinary degree in Biological Sciences and Psychology. I entered USC on a track scholarship with my eyes set on making the Olympic team in the next 4 years. I competed for USC until an injury kept me from continuing. Next, I went across town to UCLA to complete a Masters in Public Health with an emphasis in Behavioral Science and Health Education. I worked for several years as a Health Education Specialist, finally ending up coordinating the Preventive Health Program at Cal Poly SLO and teaching a course there on Peer Health Education. I was sad to leave this great job, but blessed to be able to stay home and raise my 5 children for the next 2 decades. During that time (for 12 years) I coached high school track at San Ramon Valley High School. As my parenting job was winding down and my youngest set off to college, I went back to USC to get my Masters in Teaching and Credential in Biology, bringing me here to Dougherty Valley where I am loving this new career!

Teaching/Educational Philosophy: In addition to introducing students to the world of Biology, and hopefully getting them excited about the wonders of life, my goal in the classroom is to help students continue to gain confidence and skill as life-long learners. I want students to leave my class knowing that there is constantly something new and relevant to them happening in the field of Biology and that they have the tools and knowledge they need to understand the newest development and how it may impact their lives.

Personal Notes: In my free time, I love to explore new places, traveling near and far. Recently, I took a photography class, so I am enjoying learning how to document my travels with better photos! I also fill my free time with visits to family scattered all over California.
