  • College – San Jose State University - BS Kinesiology
  • College – St. Mary’s College – MA Teacher Leadership

Background: I studied Kinesiology at San Jose State University, with an emphasis in Pre-Professional Physical Therapy.  I completed 2 physical therapy internships during that time. I worked as a swim instructor, lifeguard and pool manager for the city of Milpitas and for Almaden Valley Athletic Club, for a total of 5 years combined.  I have taught CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding for the American Red Cross. Prior to coming to DVHS in 2009, I spent 5 years in Hayward Unified School District at Mt. Eden High School.  At Mt. Eden I taught Health, Biology, and Peer Mediation / Conflict Mediation. I have coached swimming and cheerleading.  I am currently working with the AVID program and Academic Enrichment Program at DVHS, targeting middle performing and at risk students and helping them to become more successful students.

Teaching/Educational Philosophy: My teaching philosophy is that EVERY child can learn.  Every student is learning every day they step onto a school campus. They may not be learning what their teachers or parents are expecting them to learn, but they are learning.  We have a small window of time to inspire them to be life-long learners, to crave information not points, to be curious about the world, to ask why, and to not settle for “ok”. I challenge myself each day to use my words and my actions and my lessons and my activities and all my interactions with students, to inspire them to be deeper thinkers and upstanding citizens who understand that success is defined differently for different people. I look for the students who seem to be lost, not learning, caught in disorganization or distraction or drama, and show them how to move beyond what hinders them and achieve endless possibilities.

Personal Notes: I have been married since 2002, and I have 3 amazing children with my husband, born in 03, 04, and 06.  I am involved with ministries for children and women at my church in Pleasanton.  I love to run (for fun and fitness) and I have a little gingerbread cookie hobby on the side of teaching.
