The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System was established on January 1, 2014. The CAASPP System replaced the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program, which ended on July 1, 2013. Eleventh grade students take the online adaptive test in both english language arts and mathematics. Individual scores will be reported to students and to schools. Students who perform well on the tests will be able to skip remedial courses in college as these scores will be used to gauge college readiness. Student scores will also be used to calculate a new Academic Performance Index (API) number. While the California Department of Education has yet to finalize the exact details of how they plan to implement the rating system, we know that student CAASPP scores will be a factor.

The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments which are delivered by computer consist of two sections: a computer-adaptive test and a Performance Task based on the Common Core State Standards for English–language arts and mathematics. The computer-adaptive section includes a range of items types such as selected response, constructed response, table, fill-in, graphing, etc. The PT are extended activities that measure a student’s ability to integrate knowledge and skills across multiple standards—a key component of college and career readiness.


Avoid scheduling medical and/or dental appointments during the testing block. Students who are absent during testing will be pulled from other classes in order to take the exam as all 11th graders are required to take the exam.
