Wildcat Parents

to parents/guardians of 2018 graduates

Dear Senior Wildcat Parents/Guardians:

Graduation is almost here and we are looking forward to sharing this special night with you!

Graduation is one of the most important milestones in your child's life. Please explain the importance of the event; it is one of decorum and sincerity. Your cooperation, both as parents and that of your graduates, is not only encouraged but also expected in order to make this a dignified event. Please be mindful that others will be sharing this day with you and the event will go much more smoothly if we remain considerate of this fact.

We have many activities that celebrate their graduation and we encourage students to use these opportunities to celebrate their class.  All of these events are a privilege, not a right and participation in these events is contingent upon satisfactory behavior for the remainder of the school year. Students who violate school or district rules or engage in activities that disturb/disrupt the learning or event environment will receive consequences, up to and including the loss of senior events (including graduation) and/or suspension/expulsion.

Thank you for supporting us by having a conversation with your students about your support for our expectations of their behavior as we approach the end of the school year.

Senior Check-Out:  All seniors must complete a mandatory Senior Check-Out form in order to participate in graduation activities.   Forms are available on the Student Resources page of our website.  Students must bring their checkout form and funds to pay for any outstanding debts to Senior Check-Out on June 1, from 1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. behind the Admin building. Students must also return their DVHS padlock at that time.  All students will need to make sure they have their textbooks turned in and all library fines paid prior to completing the checkout process. Please see Mrs. Thomas, our bookkeeper, if you have any financial questions.

Graduation Rehearsal:  A catered buffet lunch will be provided for the seniors on Wednesday, May 30 at 1:15 in the quad/commons area.  Graduation rehearsal begins promptly at 2:15 in the main gym.  If a student misses the rehearsal, he/she will NOT be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.  There will be NO exceptions.

Graduation:  The graduation ceremony begins at 6:00 p.m. on June 1 in the DVHS stadium.  The gates to the stadium will open at 4:00 p.m.  Tickets are not required and are not being issued.  Graduates must check into the Main Gym by 5:00 p.m.

For Students:

Graduation Attire

  • Appropriate non-casual attire (collared shirt, dress pants, dress, etc.) should be worn under gown (no sandals, tennis shoes, spike heels, or flip flops)
  • Caps, gowns and tassels are required for graduation (please secure caps with bobby pins as needed).
  • No exterior decorations other than pre-approved (by admin) cords will be allowed.
  • Caps may be decorated per the guidelines written by the senior class officers.

Wearing of the Tassel

  • During the processional and throughout the awarding of the diplomas, the tassel is worn on the left side of the mortarboard.
  • On the signal from the class officers after the diplomas have been awarded, the graduates will shift tassels from the left side to the right side of their caps.

  • Graduates will receive their diploma cover on stage and their actual diploma from the row monitor when they return to their seats.
  • Graduates who have borrowed a “loaner” cap/gown will NOT receive their diploma until the loaner items are returned to the Career Center immediately following the ceremony.

Campus Security:

  • There will be 24-hour security guards patrolling the campus on the days leading up to the ceremony.

Prohibited Items

  • Air horns and other loud noise-making devices.
  • Balloons or decorations that obstruct the view of others.
  • Beach balls or other items that will distract from the ceremony.

For Parents and Guests:

Announcing the Graduates

  • Students have selected a special staff member to read their name as they cross the stage; therefore, students will NOT be sitting in alphabetical order.
  • We are reminding students to take note of where they are sitting during rehearsal so that they can share their seat location with family and loved ones.

  • There will be plenty of time for you to get a photo of your student.
  • Studio One Photography will be on hand to capture the perfect photo of your student with their diploma as they exit the stage.
  • Photos can be ordered online after graduation at www.studio1experience.com

Graduation Seating

  • Seating arrangements are on a first come, first serve basis; no tickets will be issued.
  • Please do not save seats for other guests.
  • Family members and guests may sit in the bleachers and on the chairs located on the track.
  • Handicap seating is available in the bleachers with ramp access and at the bottom row at the 50 yard line.
  • We will have curbside shuttles available for people needing additional assistance reaching the stadium. The location for pick up will be in front of the main gym.

  • Please park in designated parking stalls only in the front and rear parking lots.
  • NO parking at these locations: the front loop, tennis courts or Venture School parking lots.
  • Parking in the surrounding neighborhoods is permitted on certain streets.
  • The parking spaces located near the main gym and PAC will be reserved for handicapped parking. You MUST have a handicapped-parking placard to park in this area.

Meeting Your Students

  • Upon completion of the ceremony, families may greet their graduate on the track.

We are looking forward to sharing this special night with you!
